Humphrey Jones

- 1655

***You are now starting a time warp back from 11 generations before the current children***

Humphrey Jones, one of three children of Sir Jenkyn Jones, married Betty Wynne of Gwydyr. In 1615 a son John was born to them and in the following year a daughter, Betty. Betty (1616-1684) married William Myddleton, esq of Denbigh.
The pedigree of Betty Wynne, whilst incomplete, traces the family origins to Mervyn Vrych, King of Powiz, who died in 843 AD. Pages 15 to 18 of the Family Birth Book incompletely document the family lineage to this rather noble height!

Birth Book pages 15 & 16Mervyn's descendants met their fates in the battles against the viking invaders. His son Rhadri Mawr, King of Wales, was slain in 876. Rhadri's wife Angharad is one of the daughters of Mevrie, Lord of Cardigan; his other daughter Grwgan.
Rhadri and Angharrad produced three children:
Anarawd, King of North Wales, died 913
Cadell, King of South Wales and
Mervyn, King of Powiz, who died c 900.
Anarawd's successor Idwal Vach and his daughter Elizabeth were both slain fighting the Danes in 940.
Successive generations met the same fates: perhaps Mevrie (King of North Wales) died naturally in 978, but
Idwal was slain by the Danes under Zweyn in 993,
Iago was slain in battle with Crwffyd (?as) King of Powiz in 1037.

Many generations later, the last King of Wales, Llewellyn, was slain at Builth on 11th December 1282. He was the son of King Crwffyd of Wales.

Geoff would appreciate any other information to fill the gaps here. Help me out!
